Shanghai
Sikorsky Aircraft Company - Shen 4T on display at Beijing's
Police Equipment Show
On
display at the Police Equipment Exhibition in Beijing
last month was the newest addition to Shanghai Sikorsky
Aircraft's growing fleet of helicopters in China. The
Shen 4T turbine engine powered, four-seat helicopter was
prominently exhibited at this major event for China's
police bureaus.
Sharing the indoor exhibit space with automobiles,
emergency vehicles, and many different types of police equipment,
there was one helicopter, the Shen 4T. This model helicopter
is now in use with many police departments as well as with
national security bureaus around the world. In the United
States, the Shen 4T is being flown by many local police
departments. In Mexico, the Shen 4T is being used by the
border patrol for airborne surveillance, drug interdiction
and law enforcement. In the Dominican Republic the Shen
4T is flying airborne law enforcement missions.
The large payload capability of the Shen 4T allows it to
carry a large variety of equipment including FLIR, video
cameras, loudspeakers, searchlights as well as a cabin full
of police officers and a full fuel tank. With more than
four hours of endurance, police patrols are not limited
in the area that they can observe during their missions.
The low cost to purchase a Shen 4T and the
very low operating cost have made this helicopter a very
popular vehicle for police operations. The Shen 4T can be
operated by a single pilot, allowing up to three additional
observers in the cockpit, all of whom share the excellent
visibility provided in this design. The arrival of the first
Shen 4T in China may be a milestone in the evolution of
helicopter police operations throughout the country.

Shanghai
Sikorsky Aircraft Company - A fleet of helicopters in Pudong.
An unusual sight has recently been seen flying over the
skies of Pudong in Shanghai . Four of Shanghai Sikorsky's
helicopters have been flying for the past several weeks.
In addition to the company's Shen 3A demonstrator helicopter,
three additional aircraft have been seen in Gaodong recently.
Also seen frequently in recent weeks has been Shanghai Sikorsky's
demonstration aircraft. Potential customers have been visiting
Shanghai to have a first hand look at the Shen 3A helicopter.
This well equipped aircraft has been working hard lately
as the interest in helicopter operations has been rapidly
increasing throughout China. The low price and low operating
cost of the Shen 3A has made it an attractive helicopter
for many different types of operations worldwide. In China
this model of helicopter is already in use for agriculture,
police observation, aerial photography and aerial surveillance
in addition to pilot training.
Last week the newest addition to China's growing
fleet of helicopters was a Shanghai Sikorsky Shen 4T. This
four-seat turbine engine powered helicopter has been added
to the Gaodong-based operation. It too will be serving as
a demonstrator for Sikorsky. Like the two seat Shen 2B and
three seat Shen 3A, the Shen 4T offers the most attractive
price on the market and the lowest operating cost of any
helicopter in its class. With the full service and support
team that Shanghai Sikorsky has assembled in China, these
helicopters are continuing to work hard for their owners
throughout the country.

Shanghai
Sikorsky Aircraft Company - New factory on the rise
The Ground was broken last month for Shanghai's first helicopter
factory. Shanghai
Sikorsky Aircraft Company's new facility has started to take
shape. Located in Gaodong, Pudong New District, this modern
facility will become the base of operations for the new helicopter
company. Designed to house both offices and manufacturing
facilities for Shanghai Sikorsky, the state of the art factory
will begin producing helicopters later this year.
With the support of Gaodong
and Pudong's government offices Shanghai Sikorsky selected
a site to construct its new factory alongside of the Gaodong
Heliport. This heliport was constructed as the base for the
Ministry of Communications Helicopter Search and Rescue operations
in Shanghai. Flying two Sikorsky's S-76 helicopters from Gaodong,
the MOC has been involved in many rescue missions in the Shanghai
area since they began operations last year.
In addition to the MOC
and Shanghai Sikorsky's operations, the Gaodong heliport serves
as the operating base for the Shanghai operations of Guangdong
General Aviation Co. and CITIC Ocean Helicopter Co. These
two operators provide harbor pilot delivery services for the
port of Shanghai. The Gaodong Heliport and its professional
flight operations team has made Shanghai a leader in this
field. They have become the model for other heliport operations
throughout China.

Customer service
and support to CAUC
Aug 26-2004, As a part
of Shanghai Sikorsky¡¯s continuing efforts to provide service
to our operators two members of our service and support team
visited the Civil Aviation University of China (CAUC) last
month. CAUC recently accepted delivery of two new Shen 3A
helicopters from Shanghai Sikorsky. One of SSAC¡¯s certified
flight mechanics assisted CAUC in the inspection of their
aircraft and the installation of rotor blades after the aircraft
arrived in Tianjin from Shanghai. Utilizing SSAC¡¯s Vibrex
2000 plus track and balance equipment, our service representive
then performed main and tail rotor dynamic track and balance
for both aircraft. This process assures that the aircraft
are operating at minimum vibration levels, which can reduce
the aircraft maintenance cost effectively.
Shanghai Sikorsky¡¯s flight
mechanics have received factory training in all our aircraft
systems as well as the dynamic balancing equipment. This track
and balance equipment has been put into use on many occasions
since its arrival last year. In addition to keeping our two
company demonstrator helicopters (Shen 3A and Shen 4T) operating
at peak efficiency, SSAC has provided track and balance services
to operators of our aircraft (as well as other manufacturer¡¯s)
throughout China. This has included one incident requiring
an immediate tail rotor blade replacement after the blade
was struck by airborne debris. SSAC¡¯s support staff was able
to provide a replacement blade as well as balancing the system
which allowed our operator to continue their revenue producing
operations.
It is SSAC policy to continue to provide our
customers with timely and professional maintenance service.
We maintain an inventory of spare parts in our Shanghai facility
and are ready to support customers 24 hours a day seven days
a week from our Shanghai base of operations. Please don¡¯t
hesitate to contact us for any future service or spare parts.

VS-300
First Lifted off 65 Years Ago
Igor Sikorsky¡¯s VS-300 helicopter first lifted
off from the ground 65 years ago this week at the old Sikorsky
plant at 550 South Main Street in Stratford. The VS-300 first
was America's first practical helicopter and the first successful
helicopter in the world to perfect the now familiar single
main rotor and tail rotor design. The VS-300 was first flown
(tethered) on Sept. 14, 1939 and the first untethered flight
was on May 13, 1940. Testing continued, and on May 6, 1941
Sikorsky piloted the VS-300 to a new world helicopter endurance
record of 1 hour, 32 minutes and 26 seconds. The VS-300 underwent
several major configuration changes until Dec. 8, 1941, when
it was flown in its final configuration: a single main lifting
rotor with full cyclic-pitch for both roll and pitch control
and a single tail rotor for both directional control and anti-torque.
On Oct. 7, 1943 the VS-300 was presented to Henry Ford and
his Edison Museum in Dearborn, Mich. During its career the
VS-300 logged 102 hours, 35 minutes and 51 seconds in the
air. The development of the VS-300 established the concepts
and principles that were utilized in the design of the VS-316
(R-4), the world's first production helicopter. Thus began
the world's helicopter industry.

VS-300
hovers during its first minutes in the air.

Panyu
Police Aeronaval Drilling(Extracted from
Xin Kuai Newspaper)
Panyu Police displayed
five helicopters in their Police Opening Day ceremonies. On
display was not only the B-206, R44, and R22 that have become
familiar sites in Panyu, but also the new Shanghai Sikorsky
S-300CBI light helicopter. The question repeatedly raised by
civilian observers was, ¡°Why does Panyu Police department
have so many helicopters?¡±
Panyu Police indicated
their police force rent helicopters from Guangdong Baiyun
General Aviation Co. The local Police provide the heliport,
with the general aviation company operating and maintaining
the helicopters under a leasing contract. These helicopters
will be used in law enforcement patrol, fire fighting and
EMS operations.
Compared with the high cost of operating
a complete airborne unit, as is done in Dalian and Wuhan,
Panyu police choose the cost effective method of renting helicopters
from a local general aviation company. This approach saves
the police force a significant cost while increasing their
efficiency and raising their reputation of with the public.
